FAQ

How much do you invest each year?
Typically our buy-out business is investing circa €750 million per annum. Our Infrastructure business would typically commit circa €350m per annum.

How many new deals do you complete each year?
Our buy-out business is typically investing in 10-15 transactions per annum. Our Infrastructure business is typically investing in 20 projects per annum.

Where do your funds come from?
Our buy-out team currently invests the funds of our parent, Barclays Bank PLC, together with the funds from Barclays Private Equity European Fund III and, until January 2008, the Barclays Private Equity PVLP Limited Partnership.

Our Infrastructure team manages both the Barclays UK Infrastructure Fund and the Barclays European Infrastructure Fund. Both these Funds include monies subscribed by Barclays PLC together with a number of leading financial institutions.

What involvement do you have in your portfolio companies?
We take a pro-active approach to the management of our investments post completion but are not actively involved in the day-to-day operations of our investee companies. We seek to enhance the value of our investments in a number of ways including:

  • The appointment of at least one of our executives (usually the deal leader) to the investee company board as a non-executive director
  • The appointment of a suitably qualified Chairman where appropriate
  • The development of a positive and constructive working relationship with the investee company management team
  • Regular attendance at board, strategic and other relevant meetings of the investee company and its advisers
  • The identification and assessment of acquisition opportunities
  • Input as to the format and content of management and financial information compiled by the investee company
  • Active participation in discussions regarding potential exit timing and process
